Rio de Janeiro's Zona Norte holds little real appeal as a base for tourists, and as such is not particularly geared towards the needs of international visitors. Hotels in Zona Norte, Rio de Janeiro tend to be by-the-hour 'Love Motels' rather than long-stay accommodation, but there are two good options at the international airport - Pousada Galeao and Luxor Aeroporto.
Aside from these two solid choices, Zona Norte hotel options are limited, and visitors planning to spend a lot of time in the Zona Norte may be well advised to book rooms in Centro, which is easily reached by Metro, or in the nearby neighborhoods of Santa Teresa, Gloria, Flamengo and Catete. Here there are plenty of diverse choices - from the flashy, five-star Hotel Santa Teresa to the kooky charm of The Maze, located in a favela above Catete.
