Restaurants in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro are every bit as chic, sleek and sophisticated as the residents that live in this most upscale of neighborhoods.
If you're looking for delicious seafood with an Italian twist you'll find it at our number one Fasano Al Mar, and some of the city's best pizzas are served at the glamorous Ipanema branch of the Capricciosa pizza chain.
But while travelers with money can dine like kings and queens at Ipanema restaurants, travelers on tighter budgets won't have to go hungry either. There are several simple neighborhood bar restaurants, such as Torre de Barao, which offer good value set lunches, while vegetarians and vegans can enjoy tasty meat-free snacks at nearby wholefood haven New Natural.
There are scores of easily affordable sitdown snackbars in Ipanema, all of which serve a staggering array of fresh fruit juices alongside the usual burgers and other budget-friendly bites.
Visitors with a hankering for Japanese food are spoilt for choice in this well-heeled neighborhood, with Madame Butterfly perhaps the best of the extensive options available.
Carnivores are well-catered for too, there are several very good churrascarias in Ipanema. Porcao is the best-known, and excellent quality, while the Ipanema branch of Carretao is a good budget-friendly alternative. Prepare to feast until you can feast no more.
Finally, Garota da Ipanema is worth a mention, as is the spot where Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes penned the bossa nova classic Girl from Ipanema. The food and drinks are less than spectacular, but Bossa fans will no doubt want to call in.
