With its beautiful beach, superior shopping and plethora of bars and restaurants, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro things to do are nothing if not plentiful. The well-heeled neighborhood is the number one location in the city for many holidaymakers, and Posto Nove (Lifeguard Post 9) is THE spot to eye up beautiful Brazilian girls and gorgeous Brazilian boys in their famously skimpy swimwear.
Gay visitors to Rio will find a dedicated stretch of beach here (look for the rainbow flag) while Rua Farme do Amoeda is famous for its gay friendly bars and restaurants. Sports fans will find plenty of things to do in Ipanema, from playin g futebol and volleyball on the beach to braving the waves on a surfboard or body board.
Ipanema is better known for its beach culture and nightlife than its museums and galleries, but there are a couple of spots here for culture vultures too, such as the Galeria de Arte.
Bossa Nova fans may well want to visit thw bar-restaurant Garota de Ipanema. The food is bog-standard, but it's worth a visit to see the spot where Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes gazed out at the original Girl from Ipanema and were inspired to write their legendary song.
