Kid-friendly things to do in Rio de Janeiro are plentiful, and families visiting the city can rest assured that boredom is unlikely to set in.
With its endless beaches, crashing waves, towering mountains, chattering monkeys, cable cars and rattling trams, Rio de Janeiro can seem like a giant playground for young visitors. Kids looking for things to do in Rio are sure to love the dizzying ascent up to the top of Sugar Loaf, while Praia Vermelha is a small, family-friendly beach at the foot of the mountain.
A stroll around the base of Sugar Loaf is a prime opportunity to spot monkeys - bring along some fruit and they will literally be eating out of your hand.
Families looking for kid-friendly things to do in Rio de Janeiro will find that the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon are all excellent spots to bring children of all ages, and there are plenty of kiosks nearby to keep the family fed and watered.
Meanwhile, the vast suburb of Barra da Tijuca is home to a 14 kilometer beach, along with shopping centers, cinemas showing Hollywood blockbusters, an impressive waterpark, Rio Water Planet, and a decent theme park, Terra Encantada. More low key thrills and spills can be found by riding the antique bonde (tram) across the Arcos da Lapa and up the winding cobbled streets of Santa Teresa, something of a white knuckle ride in itself.
