Arguably the first real boutique hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Quinta Azul opened in 2011 and offers just eight rooms and suites in a handsome old colonial building at the heart of Santa Teresa, Rio's arty, bohemian hilltop neighborhood. The rooms are all impeccably decorated, the leafy outdoor spaces offer fantastic views, and the service is terrific. The location may be some distance from the beaches, but the hotel sits right next door to Santa Teresa's famously good drinking and dining scene, and prices are far more reasonable than you would pay for beachfront accommodation.
