• Fondly known locally as Bar do Gomes in honor of the family that has run the bar since it opened  in 1919, this is a great place to come and get to know the locals. Old family photos and newspaper cuttings line the walls, while locals lean on the long wooden bar to nibble on petiscos (bar snacks) and catch up on gossip. Decent full meals are available, but most tourists come here to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy an ice-cold beer or one of the 32 types of cachaça. One of the most traditional and charming bars in Rio, Bar do Gomes is lively at any time of day, any day of the week.
