NileGuide Expert tip:

From Thursday to Sunday, excellent Bahian food is available from Nega Teresa, who sets up her legendary stall next to Bar do Bonde. Order drinks at Bar do Bonde and place your order for acaraje with Nega Teresa for a deliciously different eating and drinking experience.

Description:

It's just a couple of minutes' tram ride from Santa Teresa's main bar and restaurant strip, but this cosy little spot remains little visited by tourists. On the menu are delicious Arab dishes such as stuffed vine leaves, babaganoush or hummus with pitta, and stuffed esfiha, while a decent cocktail list and well-chilled bottles of beer wash the food down nicely. There's just one niggle -all too often items listed on the menu are unavailable, so it's worth checking first before you make your choices.

Prices are extremely fair, and the handful of pavement cafes make a great place to drink and dine on warm evenings. Inside, there's internet access, board games and comfy sofas on the top floor.

As the name suggests, the Santa Teresa bonde (tram) passes right by - take the Dois Irmaos line.
