Here, at Rua Miguel Couto in Centro, you'll find a pedestrianized street lined with small café bars whose plastic tables and chairs spill out into the road. Each of these informal spots specializes in the fried sardines that have come to be known affectionately as 'chicken of the sea'. Quiet during the day, the little street gets busy after 5pm on weeknights. Fridays are particularly lively, with impromptu street parties always a possibility. - Lucy Bryson
