• It's certainly far off the beaten track, but the stunning views and beautiful setting make a visit to Clube Lagoinha well worth the steep climb to get here. The club, which runs a varied programme of late-night live music events on Friday and Saturday nights, is perched high on a hillside above the Santa Teresa neighborhood, within a few hundred meters of the legendary Christ statue. A vast outdoor area overlooks two swimming pools lined with tables and chairs, and takes in sweeping vistas of the city below. Inside, the bar serves up tiny but potent caipirinha cocktails made with lime, pineapple or passionfruit, while DJs and/or live performances coax revelers away from the poolside and onto the dance-floor. - Lucy Bryson
