Description:

  • The market is handily-placed right next to the Glória Metro station, and while you're here it's worth heading up to Igreja da Gloria, an attractive church with some lovely views. With so many bright colors, the market itself makes a good photo opportunity, but do be sure to keep your camera out of sight when you're not using it. Tropical fruits in every color of the rainbow, vegetables in all manner of weird and wonderful shapes and sizes, chillies that look like they would take roof off your mouth, all can be found here in abundance, and all at bargain prices, as the hundreds of vendors battle to be the ones to win your custom. Glória is an area that tends to be largely overlooked by tourists, but head here on a Sunday afternoon and you'll find possibly the city's best fruit and vegetable market.
