Parque das Ruínas

Description:

•  Hidden away along a sidestreet in leafy Santa Teresa, Parque das Ruinas is well worth a quick detour. The small park houses a vast colonial mansion, which was allowed to fall into disrepair but has now been restored in a partially Modernist style, to interesting effect. There's a small gallery downstairs, but the real reason to visit is the view from the top floor of the mansion, taking in sweeping vistas of   Sugar Loaf and Guanabara Bay beyond the favela rooftops.
  Entrance to the park is free, and there are regular live music and theater performances in the grounds during the summer months.
