Praia Vermelha - AFRICAN RITUALS

  • User Review:

    • Visitors from all over the world come to Rio by sea or by air, and Rio never change, this religion came from the slaves in the colonization times, and it is really deep inside in the african culture. Many people called it Macumba, it is wrong...these religion has two different sides: UMBANDA AND CANDOMBLE. Some centuries ago their religion were forbidden by the white society, but when slavery were finished, they became legal, and they also get some catholic elements. Each god represents a nature phenomena and they are associated with some catholic saints. They offer flowers and food for their Gods, and some people get possessed by their spirits! By the way, the beach of Praia Vermelha is the first ocean beach of Rio and this is the place where the first europeans set foot in Rio in 1503. Rafael Torres http://donrafaguestsinrio.blogspot.com
