Sundays in Santa Teresa - Rio de Janeiro
  • Type: Culture
  • NileGuide Expert tip:

If you don't want to pay bar prices, you can pick up a chilled beer or a tasty caipirinha from street sellers at much lower prices

  • Description:

    • Widely regarded as Rio de Janeiro's most laid-back, bohemian neighborhood, Santa Teresa has become Cariocas' destination of choice on sunny Sunday afternoons. A Sunday stroll through the neighborhood can take in small art galleries and museums such as the Museu Casa de Benjamin Constant and Chacara de Ceu, but its the lively bar scene here that is the real draw. Sunday afternoons see the cluster of bars that surround Largo de Guimaraes, the square at the heart of Santa Teresa, fill up with tourists and locals, with revellers spilling out onto the streets from popular spots such as Bar do Mineiro. It all has the feel of an impromptu street party, and you may well find yourself lingering well into the evening.
