Description:

As the largest inland lake in Maine, Moosehead Lake is a top destination for kayaking, boating and other water sports. In addition, hiking trails, mountain biking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing opportunities abound in this rustic paradise. Kayakers and boaters, in particular, will enjoy gentle paddling along 400 miles of pristine shoreline featuring scenic woodlands and viewing of hawks, moose, bald eagles, deer, beaver and otter in their natural habitats. A popular launch point for water exploration is the Rockwood boat launch, a state operated launch located near the Moose River Country Store at 13 Store Street in Rockwood. In addition, this natural area features scores of smaller lakes, ponds and rivers to explore including favorites such as Prong Pond, Brassura Lake and Indian Pond. Many of these ponds also have public boat launches for kayaks, canoes and other water craft. There are many local shops which will not only rent kayaks and canoes, but pick-up and deliver you to your locations. If it's the serene vista of a country lake that you're after, be sure to put Moosehead Lake on your travel itinerary.
