Freni e Frizioni

User Review:

  • A relaxed atmosphere, cool music, a hip young crowd, inventive cocktails and endless healthy free food. This is what to expect from Freni Frizioni, one of the best examples of an 'aperitivo' bar that Rome has to offer. Popular in the north of Italy, the aperitivo is Italy's answer to pre-dinner cocktails. Never ones to drink without some food in their stomachs, Italians have turned the cocktail hour into an excuse to eat... go figure! With the purchase of a beverage, they have everything from wine to mojitos, you are allowed full access to their long dining room table chock-full of delicious nibbles. One can easily make a meal out of this as the food arrives at 7:30p and does not end until 11p. Couscous, grilled vegetables, bruschetta and pastas are constantly replenished as the stylish young crowd chows down while sipping on their drinks. The bar itself has a laid back alternative vibe with mix-matched vintage furniture, stacks of club flyers and blasting beats. Once an auto body shop, hence the name: Freni (breaks) and Frizioni (clutch), the bar accommodates patrons both inside as well as outside on the large adjacent piazza. A favourite among Romans in the know, especially during the summer when the outside piazza is in full swing, this bar retains its allure well into the night, closing at 2a.
