The Victoria Roma's great location overlooking the Borghese Gardens remains one of its most desirable assets; you can sit in the rooftop garden drinking your cocktail amid palm trees and potted plants, imagining that you're in a country villa. The lounges and living rooms retain a country-house decor, with soft touches that include high-backed chairs, large oil paintings, bowls of freshly cut flowers, provincial tables, and Oriental rugs. You don't get opulence, but you do get a sort of dowdy charm and good maintenance. Rooms range from standard to spacious; each is comfortably equipped with good beds. Furnishings such as Oriental carpets are common. Floor no. 5 has the best views of the Villa Borghese.

Good for a tour group hotel

I stayed in room 410 for one night as part of a tour group. Having stayed elsewhere in Rome, I don't think I'd pay the Victoria's prices on my own. There are really nice 3-star hotels...
