Trastevere/Testaccio/Aventino/Gianicolo
Trastevere and Testaccio are Rome's favorite neighborhoods for local flair, Roman fare and trendy nightlife. Formerly a working class area, Testaccio has been blessed with gentrification, much like its across-the-river neighborhood Trastevere, making it coveted by residents, tourists and ex-pats, changing the atmosphere from local to ex-pat. Both Gianicolo and Aventino are hill tops neighborhoods (Gianicolo above Trastevere and Aventino just north of Testaccio) with greener pastures and lacking in networked public transportation.
