Description:
When this chic restaurant and wine bar opened, management claimed it was an "attempt to give Trastevere back to the Romans." Pretend you're a native -- not a tourist -- and you should have a good time here. Theatrical lighting and lots of glass (including the floors) give the place a modernist aura, rather rare for the district. The cuisine is both innovative and traditional. Some of our favorite bite-downs include gnocchi made with red turnips and served with pecorino, crisp anchovies, and tuna. The tagliolini is homemade and sautéed with cherry tomatoes, duck, and fresh mushrooms. A sublime pigeon comes in a berry sauce encased in a chicory pie. You might also try the celestial fresh fish in an almond and lavender crust with a sweet wine sauce laced with cheese.
