Concerto del 1° Maggio

• The 1 May concert has become one of the biggest events on Italy's music scene. It arose from a trade union idea to celebrate the Festa del Lavoro (Work Festival); the concert received such public and critical acclaim that it broke away slightly from its origins and became a music festival. The programme starts in the early afternoon, with a succession of music groups, in roughly 30 minute slots. The evening brings famous groups who play for a bit longer. Concerts are free and draw attention to social issues.
