Day Note:

Start your day checking out the architecture at NAI and then take the Spido harbour tour. In the afternoon, head towards the Euromast for a fantastic aerial view of Rotterdam, soak into the uniqueness of the cube houses and end the day with a stroll along the Blaak market.

    Description:

    Having rebuilt post the World war II destruction, Rotterdam is completely different in terms of architecture from say Amsterdam. The city prides on some amazing architecture, one example of which are the Cube Houses (kubus woningen).

    These are cube shaped houses, conceived by the Dutch architect Piet Blom in 1984. A total of 38 houses, they were meant to represent a forest, with each house serving as a tree. One of the houses known as the Show Cube (Kijk kubus) is now open to visitors.

    The biggest shopping area in Rotterdam is along the Lijnbaan, starting from Weena upto the Hoogstraat. Linking this is the Beurstraverse also known as the koopgoot (shopping gutter) - the oldest pedestrian shopping area in Rotterdam. This place offers a lot of variety in terms of shopping, ranging from high end furniture to affordable clothing, good music and book stores to electronic showrooms.
