Fondation Maeght

Description:

  • Art lovers who find themselves on the French Riviera should make sure they pay the Maeght Foundation a visit. The buildings alone are a delight to behold, with a bright, airy spaciousness that is balanced and restful, incorporating terraces, gentle slopes, stonework and terracotta paving, amidst lush Mediterranean vegetation. This is the ideal temple in which to glorify 20th century art. On display are original and prestigious works of art including Giacometti bronzes and sculptures and paintings by Joan Miro, Calder and Marcel Duchamp. Several temporary exhibitions are held each year. Always impeccably organized, the themes are wisely chosen and the works on show are often either extremely well known or rarely exhibited pieces, on loan from magnificent private collections.
