The roofs of the inn's fanciful structures are splashed in bright blues, reds, and yellows; the bar's decorations are flotsam and jetsam picked up from the Salt Cay beaches. Windmills is a hedonistic delight, from the big rooms with big four-posters and fall-out-of-your-bed snorkeling right off the beach to the sundowners in the burnt-orange twilight and the elegant (but barefoot) candlelit dinners at night. The life-is-a-party atmosphere is contagious, but so is the luxuriant languor -- the hammock and sun-kissed air await you. The building of this resort in 1980 is the topic of a fascinating book, The Carnival Never Got Started, by the creator himself, Guy Lovelace.
