  • Utah has one of the nation's most mysterious nightlife scenes. Unusual liquor laws and (now bygone) "private clubs" have deterred visitors from attempting to party in Salt Lake City for decades. And though the laws are indeed somewhat strict and complex, gone are the years of memberships in bars. in fact, for customers, Utah now seems like most any other state; to drink in any bar, you must be at least 21 years of age with valid I.D.

That said, Salt Lake City certainly is not a town with an automatic, go-to bar crawl. But you can still have fun; you simply have to plan ahead a bit -check online for drink specials, D.J.s, and live music (there's a lot of it here!), and also expect to spend the evening in just one or two establishments, rather than five or six.

So even though you won't find a wildly hopping bar scene in Salt Lake City, you don't have to go to bed at 8:00; you'll simply end up switching bars less, and substituting live music and events for pure drinking and partying.
