Though locals certainly know this fact well, most people outside of Salt Lake City aren't aware that the Wasatch Region offers a copious array of excellent restaurants. From five-star, international award-winning establishments to low-key, hole-in-the-wall eateries, the food industry in Salt Lake City covers all dimensions of the palette. Mexican, American, Asian, fusion, and -of course- European of all kinds!
Salt Lake Valley has many things to thank for its international community, including the University of Utah and many other area colleges, the Salt Lake International Airport, Utah's stable economy, its ski tourism, and -surprisingly to some- the Mormon Church and its outreach programs. The Salt Lake Airport and the many local farms here make it possible for restaurateurs to use the freshest possible ingredients in their meals. And quite often these restaurant owners are Mormons brought from their home country to Utah by their religion.
Whether you're craving a decadent, slow-cooked French dinner, a light and peppy Italian meal, tapas, or a quick deli-style sandwich, Salt Lake has you covered. Included on this list are some of the area's most hoity-toity, fine dining establishments, such as The Paris and La Caille. Likewise, some of the area's trendy, modern, and accessible affairs like Trio and Molise appear here, too. Though the list is dominated by Italian joints, so too are Spain, Greece, and France represented.
Though Salt Lake's restaurants tend to be concentrated in the downtown/ business district, many are also situated nearer the Cottonwood Canyons or in lower-key neighborhoods like 15th and 15th (1500 East 1500 South).
