Active Things To Do in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Mountains have a reputation for world-class skiing and snowboarding. But equally as good are the area's other indoor and outdoor physical activities in winter, spring, summer, and fall: hiking, mountain biking, trail running, yoga, rock climbing, ice skating -even indoor skydiving and surfing!

To get outside and away from the ski slopes, consider heading to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail System, City Creek Canyon, or Millcreek Canyon -in all of which innumerable, criss-crossing paths allow for unlimited exercise and exploration. City Creek and Millcreek canyons also offer paved roads in their respective bottoms that are perfect for road biking.

If visiting City Creek and Millcreek canyons, be sure to check the calendar date; cyclists are only allowed in City Creek on odd-numbered days; cars are allowed to drive into the canyon on even-numbered days. Mountain bikers may only ride in Millcreek on even-numbered days; dogs may be off leash in Millcreek on odd-numbered days.

To recreate indoors (possibly on a rainy day), consider the two best, world-class rock climbing facilities: The Front for bouldering and Momentum for roped climbing. Or purchase a single pass for the Shiva Center's yoga. Check out a full-length Ashtanga series class at Shiva Center on Sunday mornings.

For even more unique recreation, consider a drive north to Ogden's Salomon Center for indoor skydiving and surfing. Or head west to the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns where you can ice skate or even try speed skating.
