- Located in Salt Lake City's Reservoir Park, the Art Barn has actually been open since the 1930s, serving as a community art center the entire time! Not private in any way, the Barn offers public classes through the University of Utah's Lifelong Learning Program (www.continue.utah.edu/lifelong); check online for details and to register for courses.
Definitely off the beaten path, The Art Barn flies under the radar of most locals -despite its roughly 80-year lifespan. In addition to its studio space, the Art Barn offers brownbag lunch concert series on weekdays through the month of August (check online for a lineup and details), visual arts exhibitions, and a guest writers program in cooperation with the University of Utah English and Creative Writing departments, which brings contemporary writers from across the country for free, Thursday evening readings. These are followed by a reception the same evening and accompanied by a discussion with the writers, open to the public.
