NileGuide Expert Says:
Go here if you want to ski amazing terrain without the Salt Lake City crowds.
NileGuide Expert tip:
Snowbasin maintains 26km of cross-country trails and offers the trails to guests free of charge. Snowbasin's Nordic system connects with a system of more difficult trails maintained by the forest service.
Description:
- Located a "short" hour north of Salt Lake City in the Ogden Valley, is Snowbasin -another of Utah's excellent, 500-inches-of-snow-a-year resorts with backcountry ski access and excellent, varied, in-bounds terrain. But Snowbasin differs from many of Utah's other Wasatch ski areas -like Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley, and Snowbird- in that it's vastly less crowded. Why? There's simply enough distance between Snowbasin and SLC/ PC. Snowbasin has 3000+ vertical feet and 3000 skiable acres -as well as groomed Nordic skiing.
Ogden Valley, not to be confused with the City of Ogden, is a very beautiful, relatively empty and serene valley located about ten minutes' worth of mountain canyon driving east of Ogden City. To get there from Ogden, you'll follow the Ogden River until the canyon opens up right at the base of the Pineview Reservoir. From there, you can head south to Snowbasin -or north toward Powder Mountain. To access Snowbasin from Salt Lake City, you'll take I-15 N to I-84 East, and then US 167 N. The towns of Eden and Huntsville offer accommodations, recreation, restaurants, and more in all seasons. - © NileGuide2012
