NileGuide Expert tip:
Don't let the name fool you; for 80 years, this was called the Salt Lake Art Center.
A community staple since 1931, the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is first and foremost an area dedicated to showcasing groundbreaking works from regional and global artists. However, this center is much more than "just" a gallery; it keeps an active schedule full of film screenings, panel discussions, educational programs, and special events.
At the end of 2011, the center changed its name away from Salt Lake Art Center to its current one, abbreviated UMOCA (pronounced "you-mocha"). It also enjoys the recent additions of two permanent galleries and an all-new cafe.
This downtown museum still occupies its old location.
