Under heavy renovation construction for years, this capitol building is finally open again to visitors!

  • Description:

    • Utah's State Capitol Building is unique among statehouses in its similarity to the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C . Set on a hill over looking the city, the building is a beautiful and stately masterpiece. Built between 1912 and 1916, the designer Utah architect Richard K.A. Kletting included many modern materials and conveniences such as elevators and electric lighting. The building was made of granite from a nearby canyon and the dome is covered in Utah copper. Over the years there have been various renovations including the most extensive, which began in 2004 making the building earthquake safe. The building is set on over 40 acres of beautifully manicured gardens with plants native to Utah and the views of the city are spectacular.
