Description:
The Wasatch Region offers a huge number of stimulating ways to exercise, recreate, and recuperate indoors. Whether you want to try indoor rock climbing (on ropes at Momentum, or bouldering at The Front), practice skydiving in a wind tunnel or surfing on a Flowrider (at the Salomon Center), or speed skating (at the Olympic Oval), this area has it. And when you're finished, consider some recovery with yoga (at the Shiva Center) or at a Japanese day spa (the Kura Door).
If you're in town for just one week, it will be hard to fit all of this into your schedule! All ages will really enjoy these tips!

All-around best climbing gym in Utah: best route-setting, friendliest staff.
Description:
The Front Climbing Club, located just west of downtown Salt Lake City, offers some of the best indoor bouldering in the U.S. And because it's a bouldering facility only (i.e. has no *roped* climbing), you don't even need a partner or belaying skills to have fun there. All you need is shoes and a chalk bag -and these can even be rented at the front desk. The walls feature plenty of angles -from slightly less than vertical to quite overhanging. There is more than 10,000 square feet of climbing surface and a very good problem-setting crew. In addition to climbing, they offer yoga and kettlebells classes most evenings of the week, a selection of cardio machines, a weight room, and a systems/ training-specific wall.
The Front often hosts local and regional competitions, as well as certain professional-level events. Most citizens' comps take place during the fall, winter, and spring. The pro events usually align with the Outdoor Retailer fall and summer shows- usually in January or February and August.
Check online for upcoming events, as well as weekly schedules.

Description:
A perfect way to spend a spring or summer evening: head with family or friends to the Sprint Mobile Ballpark (formerly Franklin Covey Field) and catch a Salt Lake Bees Game. This minor league baseball team starts its playing season in April, and often has multiple home games a week. Check out "Thirsty Thursdays" where beer is half-price. If you're not into beer, a standard array of concessions are available, from pizza to hotdogs, icecream to cotton candy.
The ballpark itself is remarkably clean and scenic. Neatly painted, colorful, and tidy, the stadium offers a pleasant place to sit and an amazing view of the Wasatch Mountain to the East. Evening games offer bonus feature of these peaks pinkening as the setting sun sets across the valley.

Olympic-quality venue open to the public.
Description:
When the 2002 Winter Olympics came to Utah, they left a trail of world class sporting facilities, and this is one of them. Though it's good enough for the pros to train in, it's also open to the public -with open skate hours (speed skating and "normal" skating) and very affordable rentals.
Give speed skating a try- though fast, it's not impossibly hard to just master the basics.
An expansive structure, this also has an indoor running track, other smaller ice sheets, and indoor playing fields.
Don't try to drive here after 5pm on a work day; rush hour traffic in this part of town gets pretty intense!

Our Local Expert Says:
Utah's best roped climbing for beginners and serious climbers alike.
Description:
Momentum offers the best indoor roped climbing in the Salt Lake Valley. Opened in May of 2007, it is a modern gym with well-designed wall angles, wall space, and climbing routes. With floor-to-ceiling windows, curving and streaked walls resembling sandstone, a cafe, yoga classes, cardio and weight equipment, this is not a bad place to spend an active afternoon!
In case you don't have a partner or belay skills, Momentum also has a bouldering cave. Though not its main attraction, Momentum's bouldering wall has more and better problems than most gyms in the country.
In addition to all of this, Momentum also offers climbing instruction and a daycare center.

Definitely worth the drive to Ogden -how often do you get the chance to skydive and surf in the same building?
Description:
Brand new in 2007, this one-of-a-kind, $19-million facility is the new centerpiece of downtown Ogden, featuring a Gold's Gym as a second-floor anchor. The real uniqueness comes from the three standalone training grounds for extreme sports: the Flowrider (a wave simulator for surfers), a 50-foot climbing wall, and iFly (a skydiving simulator). The impressive complex also houses an arcade and two restaurants (Mexican and pizza), and a 13-screen cinema complex is right next door. Prices vary from activity to activity; 4 minutes in the iFly cost about $50, while an hour on the Flowrider is $20.

An invigorating, non-strenuous way to enjoy the outdoors of Park City in any season
Description:
The Utah Winter Sports Park and Olympic Sports Park is an outdoor tribute to the 2002 Winter Olympics hosted in Salt Lake City, Park City, and Midway, Utah. This park (just south of I-80 in Kimball Junction), located at the base of the very obvious Nordic ski jumps, examines both the skiing history of Utah, and the Salt Lake Olympic Games of 2002. Included here is the Alf Engen Museum and its Intermountain West Ski Hall of Fame. Also a major training facility for bobsled, luge, skeleton, Nordic ski jumping, and freestyle ski jumping teams - spectators can check the online schedule and sometimes witness quite a show of athletic greatness!
Those who feel like getting interactive can try out a ride in a bobsled -as a chauffeured passenger, of course. Test out the steepest zip line in the world, or participate in a camp for Nordic ski jumping, luge, or skeleton. Check online for the tour schedules, camp dates, special events, and more.

Description:
Salt Lake City Sports Complex and Steiner Aquatic Center is the lifeline of Salt Lake City. It is no exaggeration that this complex is world class; it was the training venue for athletes in the 2002 Olympics. The pools are Olympic sized and classes are conducted under the guidance of professional coaches. Not just sports, but also nutrition, yoga, sports psychology and dance are taught to those interested. Community service is something the complex takes seriously as it gives an opportunity to senior citizens to act as foster parents to youth with special needs. These citizens are then paid a weekly stipend. Each department has varying hours so call for specific details.
