• Nestled on the west bank of the Salzach, one stop from the central bus stop, the Bärenwirt goes almost unnoticed from the street, tucked into its surrounding buildings. The food is among the most authentically Austrian you'll find and, just outside the Altstadt, it's away from the crowds thronging the tourist center. The beer is excellent, prices reasonable and the service congenial in a comfortable setting. Take the 7 bus north from Hanuschplatz or walk along the pedestrian path by the river and, just past the large crucifix, climb the steps to the street and turn right to find the restaurant.
