Sankt-Peter-Bezirk 1/4, Salzburg, Austria
NileGuide Expert tip:
A great introduction to Salzburg cuisine and sense of place.
Tucked away in the corner of the courtyard of the Benedictine Abbey, St Peter Stiftskeller has been serving meals to Salzburgers and travelers since 803 AD, making it the oldest restaurant in Europe. It serves Austrian favorites, including Tafelspitz, roast suckling pig, Wiener Schnitzel, dumplings and noodles. Famous for desserts, its take on traditional Salzburg Nockerln is formidable and not to be missed. Dining rooms on the ground floor are furnished in warm, dark paneling. Upstairs is a series of banquet rooms decorated in the Baroque style where you may also enjoy dinner and the music of Mozart performed by musicians in traditional dress.
