Stadtwirtshaus Gabler sits on a corner of atmospheric and historic Linzergasse. A brewery and restaurant have existed on the site since as long ago as 1429. The tradition is continued today with the Stadtwirtshaus Gabler serving its proprietary beer, Kaltenhausen. Its fare is hearty and traditional, with a range of choices that includes steaks and roasts, soup and sandwiches, and a salad bar. Richard Mayr, the world-renowned tenor, was born in the building, the son of the proprietor of the day. A plaque on the front of the building and a dining room named in his honour celebrate his connection with the site.
