Description:

  • A large procession led by young children with candle lights reflecting in their innocent eyes while they sing soft Spanish hymns is what las Posadas looks like. But this ancient ritual involves a lot more than just parading down the River Walk...the children actually carry figures of Mary and Joseph who are looking for shelter. The procession includes people of all ages and not just children, who participate in this street festival which is a major part of the Mexican pre-Christmas festivities. Banging on doors asking for shelter and walking down the long way, the exhausted children finally get their work's due at the San Fernando cathedral, where the procession ends and the children are treated to a pompous piƱata party!
