- Get ready for some fun! San Antonio is a land of many attractions from lazy days on the river to thrilling rides on a roller coaster. Visitors to this cultural city can find plenty to do on the San Antonio River Walk. The River Walk is the country's oldest and most extensive Spanish-Colonial water system featuring store fronts experienced in dining, art, shopping and entertainment. This city is also home to the meeting place of the 1968 World's Fair, and the still impressive Tower of the Americas – a 750 foot monument with a restaurant and observation deck. The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, originally created in 1718 by the Franciscan and Spanish Council, is sure to inspire while the Mission San Antonio de Valero (better known as the Alamo) was memorialized in history for the defenders who fell in 1836 after repeated attacks by Mexican General Santa Anna's Army. San Antonio is no stranger to art, and those looking for inspiration can visit the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, the Museo Alameda or the San Antonio Museum of Art. For animal lovers, the San Antonio Zoo exhibits over 3,500 animals from 600 species and offers 35 acres of landscaped grounds at the headwaters of the San Antonio River. The Texas Hill Country is a great leisure drive for those who want to stay in the big city and experience the great outdoors. The Texas Hill Country starts north of San Antonio and spreads along miles of lush mountainous areas providing hiking, biking trails and cycling. If you are looking for a thrill, visit one of San Antonio's theme parks, including Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Splashtown, all within 30 minutes of downtown San Antonio. SeaWorld San Antonio also provides water fun, exotic mammals and exciting rides.
