CIA Bakery Cafe - San Antonio

  • Description:

    • Espionage is not on the menu at the CIA Bakery Cafe -- it's affiliated with The Culinary Institute of America. The San Antonio campus offers a two-year associate's degree in culinary arts as well as other educational programs. A large picture window in the cafe allows the general public to view the teaching kitchen and get a glimpse into the world of serious cooking students. More importantly, you get to taste some of the results of all that rigorous training. The restaurant serves light fare, including soups, salads, sandwiches, and Latin American pastries. Chef Jake Griffin says, "My favorite offering of The CIA Bakery Cafe is the Alfajores (pronounced alfa-hor-res). It is a thin Argentinean cookie, layered with dulce de leche, and drizzled with dark chocolate. It's a very sweet yet simple cookie. Truly amazing!"
