• Talk about pan-Asian. The sign outside announces that Van's is a "Chinese Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar," but you'll also find Vietnamese dishes on the huge menu. The dining room is low-key but appealing, with crisp green-and-white cloth table coverings. If you like seafood, go for the shrimp in a creamy curry sauce or the fresh crab with black-bean sauce. Alternatively, consider one of the meal-size soups -- beef brisket with rice noodles, say, or a vegetable clay pot preparation -- or tasty versions of such Szechwan standards as spicy kung pao chicken with carrots and peanuts. Van's also has a surprisingly large wine list, so scour the shelves and cold cases for a bottle.
