There isn't a way to celebrate all that San Diego has to offer without enjoying it's beaches - spanning areas all across the county - from downtown to east county - the area is filled with sea salt air and sand. Enjoy all the outdoor activities that the beach cities have to offer - from surfing to paddle boarding, and even sun bathing.
There are some very traditional ways to enjoy the beach, and then there are some fairly particular to the city. Of course, nothing can be done without a proper bathing suit, and that can come with a few spots in Mission Beach like Gone Bananas or Pilar's, there are endless options when in search of something truly San Diegan.
Once you've got yourself covered, find a perfect spot for your daily entertainment - surfing can be found at Blacks Beach and La Jolla Shores in La Jolla, paddle boarding is ideal for beginnings in Mission Bay, volleyball comes together in Mission Beach and Oceanbeach, and simply enjoying the summer sun can be appreciated in Del Mar.
Though it was recently banned, San Diego beaches once allowed alcoholic beverages on the beach, offering college age students and young adults the perfect place to relax and enjoy a cold one. Nowadays, with new laws passed, locals reminisce about the golden days at Lahaina, a dive bar sitting right on the ocean's shore. Otherwise, work your way around all of the southern beaches with a bike ride on the Pacific Beach boardwalk.
