- Whether in the preparation of the food or the ingredients and flavors each plate expresses, La Puerta offers up a little bit of everything for everyone. First and foremost, a trip to La Puerta would be incomplete without an order of the mouthwatering guacamole. Let me just begin by saying that anytime is the right time for guacamole and man, oh man, does La Puerta's bowl of green gluttonous goodness hold a very special place in my heart.
Culhuacan inspired, the guac is made with fresh avocado, Serrano peppers, tomatoes, onion, cilantro and topped with a generous helping of Panela cheese and housemade chips. If you're still hungry after downing your bowl of guac, tempt your tastebuds with other pre-dinner munchies such as with the potato cheese rolled Flautitas with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, cotija cheese and a side of Chile de Arbol dipping sauce; the bacon wrapped TJ Dawgs served with diced tomatoes, grilled onions, jalapenos, ketchup, mayo and French fries; or the Wet Cochinita Quesadilla with Achiote pork, mild tomato chipotle sauce and sour cream.
Entrees include everything from flavor packed essentials such as the Surf n' Turf Burrito with steak, ranchero shrimp, jack cheese, guacamole and sour cream and the Chicken Mole Enchiladas with ancho, pasilla, mulato, chipotle, Mexican chocolate, sesame seeds and sour cream, to lighter fare such as the Mexico City Salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado, cotija cheese and cilantro dressing.
If you expect to find Patron here, you are sorely mistaken my friends – La Puerta only carries tequilas that are absolutely 100 percent blue agave. Housing over 110 smooth, peppery and smoky tequila from small scale companies around the world, you are bound to find a flavor that tantalizes your tastebuds. Sangria and margarita fans will also delight in the Sangria Swirl, which is prepared with fresh house-made sangria, (brandy, orange, lemon and cinnamon) spun together with a frosty frozen margarita. For a refreshing beverage, try the Aftenoon Delight made with Corzo Blanco, muddled cucumber, mint, lime juice, agave nectar and topped with 7 Up and soda water.
