Description:

  • Inaja Memorial Picnic Area features 10 picnic sites, a memorial, and a 0.5-mile self-guided National Recreation Trail that leads past some of the local plants and offers some good vantage points of the surrounding area. A brochure (trail guide) is available at the picnic area.

The Inaja Memorial was dedicated on November 25, 1957 one year after the 43,611-acre Inaja Forest Fire of 1956. Eleven fire fighters - two Forest Service personnel and nine from Viejas Honor Camp - lost their lives fighting this human-caused fire.
