    • Today this park in Barrio Logan, underneath the on-ramp to the Coronado Bridge (on the San Diego side), is perhaps best known for the colorful mural adorning it. But the history is interesting too. Back in 1970, the people in the neighborhood were agitating for a park. State authorities were willing to dole out a tiny parcel, but they planned to build a highway patrol station on the large expanse of land. But the community erupted in outrage at this. People formed a human barricade and stopped bulldozers in their tracks. Adding plantings and the beginning of the murals added fuel to their fire. The authorities, abashed, finally relented, and the park was formally dedicated. It's still an important center for community activities.
