Description:

  • The traveler on this portion of Route 125 is given a commanding view of the scenic, rolling terrain of the corridor. This is primarily the result of the freeway being somewhat above the immediately adjacent terrain with the land sloping generally upwards on both sides. The overview is pleasing, allowing the traveler to look out upon attractive residential areas. Mount Helix, with its elevation, is the dominant feature within the corridor. Beyond the corridor, distant views of Cowles Mountain to the northwest, and to Dictionary Hill and San Miguel Mountain to the south and southeast are particularly significant to the scenic character of the corridor.

The route is a mere 2 miles long in length but broad on urban culture. Route 125 lies within San Diego County, a region known for its rich Hispanic heritage, temperate climate, deep sea habors, sandy beaches and a variety of fun-filled attractions. To the west, San Diego provides some of the best surfing beaches in California along with protected coastal wetlands that attract migratory bird life each spring and fall. Snowy mountainous peaks lie to the east, and an exotic neighbor-Mexico-falls to the south. Numerous public outdoor recreation areas including Cleveland National Forest, three state parks, seven state beaches, two state historic parks, one state reserve, and a myriad of county facilities cloak San Diego County.

There is a full range of visitor services in nearby towns, i.e. Lemon Grove and Spring Valley. A myriad of recreations can be found in San Diego County: swimming, surfing, surf fishing, horseback riding, hiking, road biking, mountain biking, picnicking, and camping.

This byway is located in San Diego County. From Lemon Grove at the junction of highway 54 and 125, follow 125 to the north for the 2.2 miles of the scenic highway. The freeway continues on to join Interstate 8.
