  • San Francisco was recently voted 3rd drunkest city by gossip site The Daily Beast. So where can you find all of those inebriated locals? It's a difficult task to nominate the best bars in San Francisco.

Tunnel Top plays a great rotation of music and has an awesome wine bottle chandelier which makes you hope there's no earthquake when ordering drinks. Good vibes all around this place.

As soon as the first hint of spring arrives (some time in February), everybody heads to biker bar Zeitgeist. With an ample beer selection, kickass Bloody Mary's, BBQ, the tamale lady, and a large outdoor yard wall to wall with picnic tables, what's not to like? It's a German beer garden in San Francisco hipster style.

Feel like a secret agent as you whisper the password BOOKS to the oversized man at the door. This is Bourbon and Branch, an inconspicuous speakeasy in the Tenderloin, which serves up inspired cocktails and prohibits cell phones.

Join the Beatniks at quirky Vesuvio, an historic saloon that's been around since 1948. Tourists, cab drivers, off-duty exotic dancers, and business people all congregate here to throw back pints, reminisce, and debate.

Nobody compares to the beer selection of Lower Haight's Toronado. Nearby Noc Noc is filled with hallucinatory nooks and crannies, comfortable seating, and a daily happy hour.

The best post-work happy hour is at Rickhouse. The bartenders pour unpretentious but very sophisticated drinks, like they did back in the Roaring 20's. If you just want a whiskey, they have that too, tons of it. Raw, exposed materials, like wooden beams, reinforce the classic feel.

Whether you're out to get drunk or simply sipping a pint and meeting new friends, San Francisco's sundry selection of drinking establishments won't disappoint.
