Breakfast is a meal that should not be missed in San Francisco; that is, of course, unless you are planning on having brunch in San Francisco! Delicious eggs, artisan cured meats, local vegetables, and bartenders well-versed in the art of a proper bloody mary or mimosa, these are the things that get us out of bed on the weekends. Here are the top ten restaurants in San Francisco for getting your breakfast or brunch fix.
Dottie's True Blue Café is a favorite among the locals, and conveniently situated near to Union Square for some post-brunch shopping. Another tried and true spot is Mama's in North Beach but be prepared for a long wait; we suggest grabbing coffee and a newspaper at La Boulange to help the time pass. However, if the line is too long at Mama's then head around the corner to Don Pisto's, a relative newcomer that is turning out affordable, delicious Mexican-hued breakfasts (think chorizo and poached eggs).
For fancier breakfast fare, head over to the Mission and stop by Foreign Cinema where they turn out one of the more special brunches in the city. Zuni Café and Absinthe are all fantastic for this earliest of meals. If you're feeling downright extravagant, EPIC Roasthouse serves some seriously epic truffled eggs, and the Fairmont does not disappoint with their traditional brunch buffet spread. The most versatile-and decadent-meal of the week, breakfast or brunch with family and friends is a great way to enjoy gourmet food on a laid-back weekend in San Francisco's breakfast and brunch's restaurants.
