  • San Francisco is one of the top foodie destinations in the United States, if not the world. From fresh seafood to authentic Italian to Californian haute cuisine, a trip to San Francisco gives tourists a satisfied palate paired with an expanding waistband.

Experience the best California cuisine at local favorites Zuni Cafe or Nopa. Both have fantastic, lofty spaces, as well as excellent wine pairings. Be forewarned, the infamous burger is only served during Zuni's lunch or brunch, or wait the extra time at dinner for its world-renowned roast chicken. Zuni is also the perfect place to slurp down some oysters while drinking champagne. Fab!

Try for a table at Delfina, the Italian trattoria that single-handedly started the Mission's gourmet ghetto renaissance back in 1998. Pizzas are ridiculously good and the waitstaff is ridiculously hip and in-the-know.

Relative newcomers Starbelly, Bar Agricole, and La Mar fit in with ease amongst the more infamous restaurants on this list. The focus at Starbelly is laid back comfort food. On Tuesdays in the summer, they host family-style "Patio Picnics" where you can dive into a whole roasted pig or Santa Maria tri-tip among other goodies. Bar Agricole has a modern, unassuming space in SOMA and a changing menu of fresh, local ingredients. The sheep's milk ricotta gnocchi and the short ribs are melt-in-your-mouth amazing. La Mar is the place for fish Peruvian-style. Tangy ceviche is just one of the delicious options you'll have to decide between. It's par for the course that all three establishments serve up ingenious cocktails and excellent wine and brews.

A Top 10 list of San Francisco's restaurants would not be doing the city justice without a healthy dose of the incredible ethnic fare available here. Taste a Vietnamese revolution at Charles Phan's Slanted Door in the Ferry Building, and head to the Inner Richmond for the inexpensive flavor explosions at Burma Superstar, it's worth the trip.

Tried and true favorites Boulevard and Gary Danko continue to deliver multi-course feasts and an overall unmatched dining experience. Best for special occasions, dining at either will be memorable.
