Russian/Nob Hill
The most famous attraction in Russian Hill is, by far, Lombard Street, whose flower-flanked, hairpin turns have graced many a postcard. The commercial centers of Polk and Hyde streets beckon with unique shops and fantastic restaurants, including Frascati, Zarzuela, and Antica Trattoria.
In the adjacent neighborhood of Nob Hill, posh hotels and apartment buildings adorn the skyline, but what really takes you higher are the steeper-than-steep streets. Walking shoes are a must, but after all that climbing, your reward is a panoply of unforgettable views of the city, the bay, and Marin in the distance. Solace for sore feet can be sought on the iconic San Francisco Cable Car, with several routes running through Nob Hill. When in the area, also be sure to check out the Cable Car Museum and neo-Gothic Grace Cathedral.
