El Metate - San Francisco

  • Description:

    • This charming, bright storefront space has an annex full of tables next door. A steady stream of locals bustle in front of the open kitchen, picking up takeout orders, while a handful of diehards eat in, soaking up the cozy vibe. El Metate's enormous burritos push the boundaries of the standard Mission taqueria. Freshly steamed tortillas are stuffed with unusual fillings, such as a vegetarian melange of freshly sauteed zucchini, carrots and broccoli, and the shrimp special, a blend of beaten egg and chopped shrimp, topped with nopales in a spicy red sauce.
