The owner personally selects the fresh ingredients and then prepares each pot of hearty vegetable, split pea with ham, and thick, spicy chili, among others on a menu that changes irregularly. He is also big on conversation with his clients on anything from the weather to metaphysics. The prices are a deal. You get soup, a beverage, crackers, and free refills on the soup served at the loop-around counter or at the tables next to the picture windows.
