"There are a few fun things to do that are iconic such as viewing the Golden Gate Bridge, visiting Alcatraz, taking in Fisherman's Wharf, perhaps riding a Cable Car, and driving down Lombard Street "the crookedest street in the world" and that would be a busy but good very basic introduction to San Francisco and could be done in one very busy day."  See More

"As for things like Alcatraz, Chinatown San Francisco, and the Golden Gate Bridge, you will easily be able to visit them in a day trip from UC Berkeley using public transportation."  See More

"If you can get on the night tour of Alcatraz."  See More

"There you can catch a cruise to see Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge."  See More

"In San Francisco, the usual is Alcatraz (need to reserve ahead of time), the piers along the Embarcadero Center (Pier 39 being the most known - kind of tourist trap though), Golden Gate Park is beautiful and the golden gate bridge which is a must (from Conzelman Rd the view of the bridge + city is amazing)."  See More

"Visit Palace of Fine Arts at night Take a $15 boat ride under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz ."  See More

"Golden Gate Bridge California Academy of Sciences Alcatraz"  See More

"I will answer the part between Los Angeles and San Francisco. On the way up the coast from my perspective here are the places worth stopping / possibly staying. Santa Barbara - People love it, but I haven't quite figured out why. The town is sub-par, not so charming and lots of homeless people. The beach is detached from the town. I think that people like it if they are staying in homes or ranches on the hillside. There are also vineyards but I haven't visited them. I would say unless you are spending time at a resort such as Bacara Resort & Spa or Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara doesn't need a night...perhaps just a pit stop. Solvang - Small town in wine country that is 100% Danish. It feels like a charming european town. Hand full of mediocre inns. The one nicer hotel I am aware of is HOTEL CORQUE Los Olivos - Haven't been but people love it. Small quaint town in wine country. This is smaller than Solvang and more charming, but I haven't personally been there. Pismo Beach - This is probably what Santa Monica was like 50 years ago. It is an untouched California beach town that probably feels exactly like it did 30 years ago. Its not very crowded, has a beautiful stretch of beach but is also slightly run-down with older motels. Its possible that when we visited we missed the newer side. In either case this was a fun beach for our dog to run around because there weren't many people at all. We just stopped here for dinner and some beach time but didn't sleep here. San Simeon - This is pretty empty but gorgeous stretch of coastline with a few older hotels that aren't very nice but do the job. The big attraction here is Hearst Castle but we didn't have time to visit it. They are not dog friendly. Sam Simeon was used as a pit-stop for a night, but it was purely just for a place to sleep. Cambria - One of the scariest places I've been. It is 100% a ghost town....meaning actual ghosts *live here. It felt like it was straight out of an RL Stine or Stephen King book. Bizarre place. Big Sur - This is AMAZINGLY beautiful mountainous coastline. Tons of places to pull over and take pictures and a a handful of hikes along the way. Must stop at McWay Falls for photos. A cool place to stop for food and a nice walk is Ragged Point. There is also a hotel here that seems to be a perfect place to stay given its gorgeous plot of land. It feels like a highway rest-stop/biker stop with live music and lots of biker people. Moving up the coast a great place to have lunch is Ventana Inn (."  See More

"Alcatraz has a very cool audio tour where you can hear all the famous criminals talking and telling you stories about the prison."  See More

"Great view of the bay and Alcatraz and you can walk down the pier afterwards."  See More

"Keep away from Pier 39, wave hello to Alcatraz from the shore, and don't -- please don't -- wait in line to ride a crowded cable car."  See More

"Crissy Field: Great views of the bridge and Alcatraz!"  See More

"Crissy Field is a great spot not only for sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge (use the widest angle lens you've got) but for a great walk or run and awesome views of Alcatraz Island, too."  See More

"Alcatraz Visiting Alcatraz Island gives you a great opportunity to snap the bridge - either from the island or during the ferry ride."  See More

"Alcatraz is fun to see in my opinion - especially if you want to do touristy things."  See More

"Alcatraz, Haight-Ashbury, Ferry Building"  See More

"It's a small part of the city with good places to eat (Le Marais Bistro and Bakery, Isa Restaurant, A16, Mamacita) and within walking distance of many iconic sites, like Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio and Yoda Fountain, as well as Crissy Field - which provides great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz."  See More

"The Main things (in no particular order): Alcatraz Fisherman's Wharf Conservatory of Flowers California Academy of Sciences De Young Museum San Francisco Museum of Modern Art San Francisco Chinatown North Beach Lands End Exploratorium Ferry Building Marketplace Golden Gate Bridge Sausalito Mission District"  See More

"For SF, you could do a lot of it in like 3-4 days, like Golden Gate Park, Golden Gate Bridge, Ferry Building Marketplace, Coit Tower, Alcatraz, and eat all of the food, and then get out of the city and do something like a bike ride + wine tasting in Napa, wine tasting and breweries in Sonoma (like Bear Republic Brewing Co), hiking Mount Tamalpais, etc."  See More

"Within the city, I highly recommend you visit the Cliff House for its tiimeless views, walk Ocean Beach, tour Alcatraz, visit Ferry Building Marketplace, take a Bay Cruise, enjoy the Haight-Ashbury, the Mission District, and do some food research for some outstanding local cuisine."  See More

"Sausalito if you love arts and crafts Alcatraz best is to reserve up front as early as possible Treasure Island (San Francisco) great views of the city by day and night and you dont have to pay the toll if you just go to treasure island and return back to the city."  See More

"Never been to San Francisco, but I recommend Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Pier 39 as these are very popular in that area."  See More

"Catch the ferry back from Sausalito to Fisherman's Wharf, by way of Alcatraz (you don't stop there, but you can see it from the ferry)."  See More

"I must agree wholeheartedly with others who have chosen the Eiffel Tower, Venice, the Accademia di belle arti where Michelangelo's breathtaking David stands, and AlcatrazIsland."  See More
