"I will answer the part between Los Angeles and San Francisco. On the way up the coast from my perspective here are the places worth stopping / possibly staying. Santa Barbara - People love it, but I haven't quite figured out why. The town is sub-par, not so charming and lots of homeless people. The beach is detached from the town. I think that people like it if they are staying in homes or ranches on the hillside. There are also vineyards but I haven't visited them. I would say unless you are spending time at a resort such as Bacara Resort & Spa or Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara doesn't need a night...perhaps just a pit stop. Solvang - Small town in wine country that is 100% Danish. It feels like a charming european town. Hand full of mediocre inns. The one nicer hotel I am aware of is HOTEL CORQUE Los Olivos - Haven't been but people love it. Small quaint town in wine country. This is smaller than Solvang and more charming, but I haven't personally been there. Pismo Beach - This is probably what Santa Monica was like 50 years ago. It is an untouched California beach town that probably feels exactly like it did 30 years ago. Its not very crowded, has a beautiful stretch of beach but is also slightly run-down with older motels. Its possible that when we visited we missed the newer side. In either case this was a fun beach for our dog to run around because there weren't many people at all. We just stopped here for dinner and some beach time but didn't sleep here. San Simeon - This is pretty empty but gorgeous stretch of coastline with a few older hotels that aren't very nice but do the job. The big attraction here is Hearst Castle but we didn't have time to visit it. They are not dog friendly. Sam Simeon was used as a pit-stop for a night, but it was purely just for a place to sleep. Cambria - One of the scariest places I've been. It is 100% a ghost town....meaning actual ghosts *live here. It felt like it was straight out of an RL Stine or Stephen King book. Bizarre place. Big Sur - This is AMAZINGLY beautiful mountainous coastline. Tons of places to pull over and take pictures and a a handful of hikes along the way. Must stop at McWay Falls for photos. A cool place to stop for food and a nice walk is Ragged Point. There is also a hotel here that seems to be a perfect place to stay given its gorgeous plot of land. It feels like a highway rest-stop/biker stop with live music and lots of biker people. Moving up the coast a great place to have lunch is Ventana Inn (."  See More

"I would definitely suggest getting off at Golden Gate Park, if it's a nice day you can get off at Golden Gate Bridge and walk a little across the bridge and come back, you can also visit the area around the bridge which shows a dissected view of the cables."  See More

"Walk around Golden Gate Park (you won't have a chance to see even a quarter of it, but give yourself an hour to just explore"  See More

"Secondly, how about a Segway Tour of Golden Gate Park?"  See More

"Hi Ava, In that amount of time I would definitely skip Fisherman's Wharf and instead head to the Ferry Building, if you happen to be there on a Thursday, there is a farmer's market that sets up in front with food stands. I like Wise Son's Deli and Tacolicious. Inside the Ferry Building you should try Boccalone Salumeria, they have great paninis and their meat cone is fun to sample the various deli meats they offer. Also you should definitely grab some Acme Bread Company(cash only) and then head over to Cowgirl Creamery to pick up some Mt. Tam brie cheese to have with your bread. Hog Island Oyster Co, Inc is also good, the prices are a bit high, but the oysters are super fresh and the clam chowder is very unique (much more soupy and not as creamy or thick, but they are served with whole clams - and lots of them). Some yummy places you can eat at and things to see: Little Star Pizza (or Little Star Pizza), I LOVE their deep dish pizza (they serve thin crust as well), they also have salads and a few appetizers (beer and wine too). B Patisserie is a must, their kouign amann is the best! Anything you order will be amazing (especially any of their bread based treats). If you don't have anything like it where you're from Sushirrito - FIDI Transamerica always makes the locals happy. They are sushi burritos (essentially large handrolls), but they're very tasty! Kokkari Estiatorio is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Their lamb chops are delicious, their whole grilled fish can't be missed and their octopus appetizer is amazing. For a classic SF bakery, Tartine bakery is a must! I like their bread, tartes and their passion fruit, lemon cake. Molinari Delicatessen is a great deli in North Beach. I order their focaccia special and it's delicious. Any sandwich is great! If you like focaccia, I think the best in the city is at Lucca Delicatessen. If you don't mind spending a bit more, I always enjoy my meals at Cotogna, great Italian food. For a street full of amazing restaurants head to Hyde St between Jackson St and Filbert St. In that stretch, there are multiple restaurants that have won awards, made it on must-try lists etc. There is Frascati, Stones Throw, Zarzuela, and Seven Hills (I can definitely vouch for this one). If you're there on a Friday, you should head over to the food trucks at the Fort Mason Center. On Sunday from 11-4 there is a picnic at Presidio:"  See More

"Great time to visit is after school starts. Prices cheaper, crowds lessen. Avoid Fishermans Wharf except for a stroll to eat some fresh crab or shrimp cocktail. Get from curb vendor with loaf of sourdough bread and enjoy ambience outside as Sept, Oct warmest months. Dining pretty good throughout city, don’t be afraid to try a place that appears interesting. Some great food places in North Beach. If getting seafood at wharf consider a pier 39 boat tour (either to Sausalito for romantic dinner seaside or Golden Gate Bridge, circle Alcatraz Island. If driving to SF consider a stop at Treasure Island mid way on Oakland Bay Bridge. Consider bike rental especially for GG bridge. Check out well priced underrated museums and must stop Golden Gate Park if possible via bike (many rentals and motorized bicycles help). Make time for unplanned fun as something will intrigue you that you’d like to experience. Be open, alert and enjoy."
